From the Driver's Seat - 2016 BMW 7 Series

The all-new, 2016 BMW 7 Series is the sixth generation of BMW's high-tech luxury hot rod. The styling is evolutionary rather than revolutionary, familiar but a little tighter and crisper. Starting this year, only the long-wheelbase version is available in the US, but you'll have a choice of two turbocharged engines; a V-6 producing 320 horsepower or a 445 horsepower V-8. Later in the year, you'll also be able to order diesel and hybrid versions. Whichever version you order comes equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, but you can get it with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

And let's say a word about the 7 Series' new chassis, a composite of high-strength steel, aluminum and carbon fiber that's both stiffer and weights 200 pounds less. And its a difference you can feel on the road, both in the responsive handling and the fact that you can accelerate from zero to sixty in 4.3 seconds -- which is faster than the M5, and faster than a good many sports cars, for that matter. So rest assured that, even as it becomes more mature, more luxurious and more technical, the 7 Series is still very much an 'Ultimate Driving Machine.'

Speaking of technical, it's the new levels of technology that give the new 7 Series its 'sizzle.' Even the ignition key is more like a cell phone with state-of-the art remote control and an LCD touch screen.

Inside, luxury starts from the bottom up, including diamond-stitched Nappa Leather upholstery that's not only super-comfortable, but looks really rich. The next car up the ladder with this kind of upholstery is a $300,000 Bentley.

And the new 'gesture control' technology is both cool and a huge safety feature. It recognizes five different finger movements; point and answer the phone, make a circle and change the volume on the radio, etc. All in all, five systems that you use all the time and now you can do it all without taking your eyes off the road.

The back seat doubles down on both luxury and technology with an optional seating package that includes reclining seats that are both heated and cooled, and give you a massage. There's also a fold-down footrest, a fold-out center writing table and even a scent dispenser in the ventilation system.

You also get a removable 'touch command' tablet that not only controls the car's systems, but also lets you check your e-mail and surf the internet. But perhaps the ultimate combination of technology and luxury is the panoramic sky lounge LED roof with laser-etched glass that's lighted from the side to make it look like a starry sky at night.

Whether you're behind the wheel, or lounging in the back seat, the new 7 Series is the cutting edge of luxury, technology and performance. This is the closest you'll get to flying in a private jet while you're still on the ground.

If this sounds like the automotive experience you've been dreaming of, stop by Braman BMW in West Palm Beach or Jupiter for a test drive and they'll help you make it a reality.
