First BMW 5-Series Hybrid Available March 2012

BMW currently offers luxury drivers three hybrid options: the BMW ActiveHybrid X6, BMW ActiveHybrid 750i, and BMW Active Hybrid 750 Li. The award-winning German automaker has even started leasing the electric ActiveE to select drivers as part of a two-year field test...That's a total of four eco-friendly, hyper-fuel-efficient vehicles with zero compromise to performance. In March 2012, that number will grow to five.

The all-new 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 5 - perhaps the most approachable hybrid vehicle BMW has offered to date. Quite apropos, don't you think? BMW's fifth hybrid vehicle joins the 5-Series.

As far as fuel economy is concerned, an official EPA estimate has not yet been released. BMW does, however, report the all-new 2012 ActiveHybrid 5 promises a double-digit improvement in mileage compared to its petrol-powered counterpart, the BMW 535i, which delivers 20 mpg city/30 mpg highway.
